The 2007 Rusciano (Syrah) bursts onto the palate with a rush of dark fruit. There is an energy and vibrancy to the Rusciano I find quite appealing. Aging in steel keeps the wine fresh, with attractive floral and minty notes that add complexity on the round finish. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2014. This is a stunning set of wines from Valle dell'Acate. Not only are the wines delicious, the best bottles deliver incredible value as well. The estate uses only their best hillside plots for the Valle dell'Acate label, while the vineyards in the plains are used for the entry-level Case Ibidini range. Importer: Polaner Selections, Mt. Rusciano is a blend of Syrah and Nero d’Avola that displays impressive depth and complexity. Aromas of dark fruit, spice, black currant and earthy tobacco build in intensity as the wine evolves in the glass. The finish is smooth and rich. ——M.L.(4/1/2012)—— 90

Black olives, earthiness, dark fruit, herbs and licorice emerge as the 2006 Rusciano (Syrah) opens up in the glass. Elements of rusticity detract from the overall balance. As good as the Rusciano is, it isn't as convincing as the estate's wines from indigenous grapes. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2013. These new releases from Valle dell-Acate are impressive.
