The 2006 CABERNET - MERLOT is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, the rest Merlot, aged for one year in 70% new French oak. Powerful, focused and pointed, beautifully constructed, this is a wine that seemed very classy and was something I really wanted to like a lot more than I did. The ideas were right. I’m not as sure about the execution. Rather herbaceous and perhaps with a hint of nail polish on the nose as well, it seemed a touch funky and often hard to warm up to. Combine a little astringency, and this wine is likely going to be a hard to get to know. It is a lot of wine for the price, though. Drink 2012-2020.
