Pitting Lazio and Syrah together is an interesting and choice and there are some kinks to work out here. The 2011 Syrah actually sees fruit sourced from the Maremma area of northern Lazio and is aged six months in oak tonneaux. The wine boats a deep black color and immediate aromas of dried blackberry, candied plum and prune. You can’t help but notice the jammy ripeness of the bouquet. Background tones of leather and cured meat add some dimension. What I didn’t like is burnt bitterness on the close. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2015.
Representing the highest level of Roman nobility, Princess Maria Camilla Pallavini lives between the unreal Palazzo Pallavicini-Rospigliosi in the center of Rome and her winemaking estate on the southern outskirts of the city. Recently, the Pallavini family engaged oenologist Carlo Ferrini to restyle their wine. Most of the wines below are from before he was hired.
