This is a new wine from the talented winemaking team at Pio Cesare. I tasted this wine in a preview capacity from barrel. The 2015 Langhe Oltre is a complicated blend of Nebbiolo, Barbera, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Because of the many varieties used in the blend, it's not easy getting a read of any one grape. Instead, the blend shows broad-brush appeal with dark cherry fruit, spice and grilled herb. You get subtle hints of the astringency and power associated with some of the more robust grapes in the group. Some 12,000 bottles were made.
