Montefalco Rosso is a category of Italian red wine that deserves more attention, in my opinion. The wine offers a frankness and a level of territorial authenticity that makes it stand alone, yet it is also very accessible and versatile in terms of all your standard meat and pasta pairings. This expression, the 2015 Montefalco Rosso Riserva, is well worth the price you pay for the bottle. The wine offers ample blackberry, smoke and dark spice. The blend is 70% Sangiovese, 15% Sagrantino and 15% Montepulciano. Some 13,300 bottles were released.
