If Oda was oaky, the 2012 1780 was even more so, with charred aromas and a palate invaded by oak flavors and texture, that didn't make it very attractive. For fans of extremely oaky reds. 9,600 bottles produced.

The 2008 1780 is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% each of Tempranillo, Garnacha and Merlot and the balance 5% Syrah, aged in new French oak barrels for 24 months. That might sound a little excessive, but it seems as though the fruit has the stuffing to absorb the wood, and the wine seems quite balanced and integrated, if slightly international, pleasant and well-crafted, a little warm toward the finish. The 2007 “1780” is a blend of 50% Cabernet, 15% Tempranillo, 15% Garnacha, 10% Merlot and 10% Syrah aged in new American and French oak for 24 months. It has a very ripe, slightly smudged bouquet with macerated red cherries, sloes and a touch of kirsch with moderate definition. The palate is medium-bodied with soft, supple tannins although the new oak blurs the fruit profile. The finish is ripe and flavoursome but lacking some complexity and tension. Drink now-2017. The 2006 1780 is made up of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Tempranillo, 15% Garnacha, with the balance Merlot and Syrah. The wine proffers a reticent nose of earthy minerality, herbs, and a hint of black fruits.
