It is easy to overlook the Araujo Estate 1995 Sauvignon Blanc given the fact that the entire allocation of Cabernet Sauvignon (and, I am sure, the Syrah when it is ultimately released), disappears as soon as it is released. The Sauvignon has evolved nicely over the last several vintages. An intelligent decision was made to add 8%-10% Viognier to the blend, giving the wine a more aromatic personality. At present, the melony/fig fragrance of the Sauvignon is nicely complemented by the subtle honeysuckle/apricot-like component of Viognier. The 1995 exhibits excellent purity, medium body, intense fruit, and a dry, crisp, surprisingly long finish. This is one of the best Sauvignons readers will find from California. It will not be long-lived, but 12-18 months of enjoyment is forecast.Tel. (707) 942-6471; Fax (707) 942-6471
